Tips on designing an Eye-catching Website for your Business

Your website is the online picture of your business that the world will see – so to say it’s a key component of your web marketing is an understatement! It is also the first snapshot impression that prospective clients will get of your company. So you really have to be very discerning when it comes to designing a particularly eye catching website.  Let’s take a look at some tips:

  1. Because your website presents a condensed portrait of your company, make sure you leave nothing to chance. With a quick glance a person wants to see something that will make him stay and read more – a pertinent heading, a leading article or a thought-provoking question could be appropriate depending on who you are trying to reach;
  2. Always remember that ‘less is more’. Don’t go for lots of colors and different fonts and lots of different sections for people to try and wade through. Pick one or two complementary colors and use those, maybe vary the shading a bit to make something interesting stand out;
  3. Provide an easy to use navigation system. Don’t be clever and change what everyone is used to. Put a navigation bar at the top and one down the left. It works best and is easier for everyone to follow. Then they don’t have to waste time find out how to move to a different section. Also important is to put one at the bottom of your page to save people scrolling all the way to the top again;
  4. The content on your website is the most important. Like the client is king in your business, the content is king on your website. Make sure it is clean and not filled with fluff as most people will then give up and move away. It must be professionally written in the same way as your run your company.

Having your website designed is worth spending time and money on. Research show that one of the top reasons for small business failure is because of a boring, badly laid out website. Statistics tell us that within 15 seconds or less, your prospective client has decided to move on or stay and read. And search engines do not pick up websites filled with flash and music as quickly as they pick those that are filled with useful content
