Spending fifteen minutes a day quietly planning your movements and goals for the day can go a long way to ensuring you keep your finger on the pulse of what is happening all around you. Firstly, start with instilling a new habit: have a conversation with one of your customers every day – walk down to the shop floor, stroll through your warehouse or pick a telephone number out of your customer database. You only need two to three minutes to say hello and how are you and you are making the customer feel like he is the most important person in the world. Guess what he will do – he will tell his friends and they will tell their friends and so on – it is amazing what word-of-mouth marketing can do.
Next, check out and review the stats of your website every day. As you are having your morning coffee, scroll through your website and see what emails or requests for quotes have come in. If the numbers are down, then you can get your customer service people working on it right away. Stop the leak before it empties the dam. This should take you no longer than five minutes.
And lastly, let’s face it, everyone has a busy day and very few people get through their daily ‘to-do’ list every single day. So, every day, make a plan to do one different thing. For example, today, delegate a task that you have doggedly held onto for the last year or so because you think nobody else can manage it quite as well as you can. The fact is, you are never going to find out what the full capabilities of your staff are if you don’t start somewhere!
Now is that not the most productive 15 minutes you have ever spent?!
