This video (entitled “socialnomics”) is as much about small business web marketing as it is about social, cultural and technological change. Everyone will watch this and take different things away from it, but there’s no doubt it gets you thinking about the way media and communication are changing! I think the 2 points that jumped off the screen at me were:
1. If facebook were a country, it would be the 3rd largest in the world
2. 90% of consumers trust peer recommendations (and only 14% trust advertising)
So if your idea of successful web marketing involves being on page 1 of Google, you may not be thinking broadly enough about how people will find you. Take the staggering growth of social media (described thoroughly in this video) and combine that with our recent post about using facebook for sharing and the impact on web marketing…and you could create a compelling case that no web marketing strategy is complete without some form of social media.
