Social Mention (socialmention.com) allows you to quickly track and read what people think about your product, your business, you, or any topic, in real-time across the internet’s social media. It directly monitors more than 100 social media bodies including Google, Digg, YouTube, FriendFeed, Facebook, and Twitter.

Currently, Social Mention offers a point-in-time analysis and social media research service, plus daily alerts and a 3rd party API. The latter is primarily designed for use by web marketing or internet marketing firms, or web agencies, to provide clients help with marketing.

To assess response to a business or product, the words STRENGTH, SENTIMENT, PASSION and REACH are used on Social Mention. This is what they refer to:

• Strength is the probability that your business is being talked about in social media.  
• Sentiment refers to the ratio of discussions that are positive in comparison to those that are negative.
• Passion gauges the probability that people who are discussing your business will continue to do so. For example, you may have a group of passionate supporters who talk about your brand or business all the time. This gives you a high Passion score. In contrast, if mentions are submitted by miscellaneous people, your Passion score will be lower.
• Reach measures the scope of influence.
